Artist: Nurdin Adams

Born in the Tundura District, Nurdin moved to Dar-es-Salaam in 1988 and begins painting in 1990 under the mentorship of Thabiti. Nurdin is one of only about fifty recognized Tingatinga painters in Tanzania. Tingatinga painting is a folk art style indigenous to Tanzania, and has been passed on only to friends and family of its originator, E.S. Tingatinga, who passed away in 1972 at the age of 40.

Napenda! Pots

Tingatinga painting on ceramic vessels. The bright and cheerful art causes everyone who picks it up to say “napenda!” (I like it!!). No two pieces are alike.
